Who portrays Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Maria Hill is portrayed in the MCU by Cobie Smulders.

Smulders first appears as Hill in The Avengers (2012), where Hill serves as a high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. officer and one of Nick Fury’s trusted associates. Across the MCU, Hill helps coordinate the Avengers Initiative, supports Fury during the HYDRA crisis, and later works with Stark Industries after S.H.I.E.L.D. collapses. Her calm, operational style makes her an important link between superhero teams and the wider intelligence network.

Smulders reprises the role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. She also appears in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the 2023 miniseries Secret Invasion. In Spider-Man: Far From Home, a Skrull impersonator uses Hill’s appearance, which can cause confusion about whether every appearance is the real Maria Hill.

The comic-book Maria Hill debuted in New Avengers #4 in 2005 and was created by Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch. The MCU version remains closely associated with Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson. Elizabeth Olsen, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Scarlett Johansson portray other major Marvel characters, not Hill.
