Who is the first character to say "I am Iron Man"?

The story behind the answer

The first character to say “I am Iron Man” is Tony Stark.

He delivers the line at the end of Iron Man (2008), during a press conference after defeating Obadiah Stane. Stark’s advisers have prepared a cover story claiming that Iron Man was a bodyguard, but Stark abandons the script and publicly identifies himself as the armored hero.

The moment is important because Tony has spent much of the film hiding behind wealth, bravado, and the Iron Man persona. His decision to reveal the truth marks a change from secretive weapons manufacturer to a more accountable hero. It also became one of the defining lines of the MCU.

The wording is sometimes confused with later versions of the phrase spoken by other characters or with Tony’s earlier declarations about the armor. In the original 2008 film, however, Tony Stark is the first MCU character to say it. Robert Downey Jr. improvised the final line, and Marvel kept it because it perfectly suited Stark’s personality.
