Duncan Bannatyne was an original investor on the first series of the British programme Dragons' Den.
Bannatyne is a Scottish businessman, philanthropist and author who joined the original panel when the British series launched in 2005. His business career included interests in health clubs, care homes and hotels.
His straightforward style made him a prominent early member of the panel. He frequently focused on whether a proposed business could grow beyond a small operation and whether the entrepreneur understood the value being offered.
Bannatyne remained a dragon for many series before leaving the regular panel. He is sometimes mistaken for Peter Jones when lists of original investors are recalled, but both were present from the beginning and had different business backgrounds.
