Duncan Bannatyne is the founder of the Bannatyne health-club chain and a former Dragon on the British television programme Dragon's Den.
Bannatyne built businesses in several sectors before developing his health-club group. The Bannatyne Group operates health clubs, spas and hotels in the United Kingdom. His business background helped establish his reputation as an investor on the BBC programme.
He was one of the original Dragons when the British series began in 2005. Bannatyne remained on the panel for many series before leaving in 2014. He was known for direct questioning and for examining whether entrepreneurs had realistic sales and profit expectations.
The chain should not be confused with Bannatyne's earlier children's care-home business, which was sold before he expanded into health clubs. Nor should his role be confused with that of Peter Jones, another original Dragon who has a different business portfolio.
