Alan Sugar founded the British consumer-electronics company Amstrad, although he was not a Dragon on the British version of Dragon's Den.
Sugar established Amstrad in 1968, using a name formed from his initials and the word Trading. The company became known for affordable consumer electronics, including home computers and satellite television equipment. Sugar later became associated with The Apprentice rather than the Dragon's Den investor panel.
This question is deliberately about the British programme's broader investor concept, where the wording can produce a common mix-up: Alan Sugar is a famous British business personality, but he did not serve as one of Dragon's Den's regular Dragons. The actual panel has included investors such as Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis.
Amstrad's history is also separate from Sugar's television career. The company was acquired by BSkyB in 2007, while Sugar continued appearing in business and entertainment programmes.
