Which presenter hosted the first series of the British TV programme Dragons' Den?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis hosted the first series of the British TV programme Dragons' Den.

Davis is a British economist, journalist and broadcaster who presented the programme when it launched on BBC Two in 2005. In the show, he introduced entrepreneurs, explained the investment process and provided context around the businesses seeking finance.

He was the original presenter of Dragons' Den and remained associated with the programme during its early years. The presenting role is separate from the dragons' role: Davis did not sit on the investment panel or negotiate equity with contestants.

Davis is also known for his work at the BBC outside the series. He presented BBC Radio 4's Today programme and later became the presenter of Newsnight. His career therefore spans business, economics, radio and television journalism.
