What is the name of the superhero team that includes Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor? The answer is the Avengers.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Avengers are a team assembled to defend Earth against threats too powerful for one hero to face alone. Their earliest major lineup includes Tony Stark as Iron Man, Steve Rogers as Captain America, Thor, Bruce Banner as the Hulk, Natasha Romanoff as Black Widow, and Clint Barton as Hawkeye.
Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. bring the group together in The Avengers, released in 2012. The heroes initially clash because of their different personalities, loyalties, and fighting styles, but they unite when Loki launches an invasion of New York with the Chitauri. Their teamwork turns the Avengers into Earth's most recognizable super-team.
The Avengers are based on Marvel Comics characters and are commonly associated with the phrase “Earth's Mightiest Heroes.” The roster changes repeatedly across the MCU, adding heroes such as Wanda Maximoff, Vision, Sam Wilson, Spider-Man, and Captain Marvel. The Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Guardians of the Galaxy are separate Marvel teams.
