What is the name of the metal used in Captain America's shield?

The story behind the answer

The metal used in Captain America's shield is vibranium. In the MCU, Howard Stark tells Steve Rogers that the rare metal is stronger than steel, weighs about one-third as much, and absorbs vibrations. Stark uses the available vibranium to create the circular shield that becomes Captain America's signature weapon.

Vibranium is fictional and is most closely associated with Wakanda and Black Panther. Its unusual ability to absorb and redistribute kinetic energy explains why the shield can withstand bullets, explosions, powerful blows, and even serve as a weapon when thrown. The MCU does not present the shield as ordinary steel, although different versions and replicas have appeared.

A common mix-up is adamantium, another Marvel metal associated with Wolverine. Uru is the enchanted Asgardian material used for weapons such as Mjolnir and Stormbreaker. Carbonadium is also a Marvel alloy, but it is not the material named for Captain America's MCU shield.
