Post Malone was the most-nominated artist at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, receiving 16 nominations. The nominations were announced on September 22, 2020, ahead of the ceremony held on October 14.
Malone’s nominations reflected the reach of his album Hollywood’s Bleeding and its successful singles. He competed across major categories such as Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist and Top Rap Artist. He also appeared in album and song categories.
He ultimately became the night’s biggest winner, collecting nine awards. His haul included Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist and Top Streaming Songs Artist. The ceremony was hosted by Kelly Clarkson and was staged at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles after the original April date was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A useful comparison is the nomination race: Lil Nas X had 13 nominations, while Khalid and Billie Eilish each had 12. Those artists were prominent contenders, but none matched Malone’s total of 16.
