Spotify partnered with Billboard for the 2023 Billboard Music Awards segment called “Fans First.” The partnership was announced on October 19, 2023, as part of a redesigned, digital-first awards presentation.
The segment was intended to bring fans closer to artists through more personal interactions rather than limiting the event to a conventional stage-and-trophies broadcast. This arrangement is easy to confuse with the broader roles of platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Apple Music in music promotion, streaming, and awards coverage, but Spotify was the named partner for “Fans First.”
The 2023 BBMAs differed substantially from earlier ceremonies. Instead of a traditional network television broadcast from one arena, the event aired online through Billboard and its social channels, with performances and celebrations staged in locations connected to artists’ tours and schedules. Taylor Swift led the nominations with 20, while Morgan Wallen won the most awards, taking 11. The Spotify collaboration fit that broader effort to make the show more interactive and digitally distributed.
