Which Los Angeles venue hosted the 2021 Billboard Music Awards?

The 2021 Billboard Music Awards were hosted at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The ceremony took place on May 23, 2021, with Nick Jonas serving as host and NBC carrying the broadcast.

The venue is a major live-performance space in downtown Los Angeles, near Crypto.com Arena and the Los Angeles Convention Center. That location can cause confusion because several large Los Angeles venues regularly host music award shows, including the Dolby Theatre and Hollywood Bowl. However, neither of those venues hosted the 2021 BBMAs.

The 2021 ceremony marked the return of a large in-person awards production after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the previous awards season. The Weeknd led the finalists with 16 nominations and ultimately won 10 awards, while Pink received the Billboard Icon Award and Drake was honored as Artist of the Decade. The Microsoft Theater has also hosted other major entertainment events, making it a natural fit for a nationally televised production.
