Who was Nirvana’s final drummer, joining the band in 1990?
Answer
Dave Grohl
Answer
Dave Grohl
Dave Grohl became Nirvana’s final drummer when he joined the band in 1990.
Grohl had previously played drums in the Washington, D.C., hardcore band Scream. After Scream broke up, he auditioned for Nirvana and replaced drummer Chad Channing. Grohl’s powerful, precise playing became a defining part of Nirvana’s sound during the Nevermind era.
He recorded drums on Nevermind, In Utero, and the live album MTV Unplugged in New York. Grohl also contributed guitar and vocals to Nirvana’s recordings, including the song “Marigold,” which appeared as a B-side.
Nirvana ended in 1994 after Kurt Cobain’s death. Grohl later formed Foo Fighters, becoming its lead vocalist, guitarist, and principal songwriter. A frequent confusion is treating Grohl as Nirvana’s original drummer; the band had several earlier drummers, including Chad Channing.
