Who produced Nirvana’s 1993 album In Utero?

The story behind the answer

Steve Albini produced Nirvana’s 1993 album In Utero.

Nirvana recorded In Utero in February 1993 at Pachyderm Studio in Minnesota, with Albini engineering and producing the sessions. The band wanted a more direct, abrasive sound than the polished production associated with Nevermind.

Albini used relatively natural recording methods and completed the main sessions quickly. Because the resulting mixes sounded harsh to the label and some listeners, Nirvana later worked with Scott Litt on selected remixes, including “Heart-Shaped Box” and “All Apologies.”

In Utero was released on September 13, 1993, in the United Kingdom and September 21 in the United States. It became Nirvana’s final studio album released during Kurt Cobain’s lifetime. Butch Vig, who produced Nevermind, was not the producer of In Utero.
