Who played bass guitar in Nirvana throughout the band’s best-known lineup?
Answer
Krist Novoselic
Answer
Krist Novoselic
Krist Novoselic played bass guitar in Nirvana throughout the band’s best-known lineup.
Novoselic formed a musical partnership with Kurt Cobain in Aberdeen, Washington, during the 1980s. After several early name and lineup changes, the pair became the core of Nirvana, with Dave Grohl joining on drums in 1990. This trio recorded Nevermind and In Utero and performed the band’s most famous concerts.
Novoselic’s bass playing helped give Nirvana’s songs a strong, direct foundation. He also contributed backing vocals and occasionally played guitar. His towering height and energetic stage presence made him one of the most visually recognizable members of the group.
Some trivia questions confuse Novoselic with Jeff Ament, who was Pearl Jam’s bassist, or Mike Starr, who played bass in Alice in Chains. Novoselic remained Nirvana’s bassist until the band ended following Cobain’s death in 1994. He later played in Sweet 75, Eyes Adrift, and other projects.
