Steven Spielberg directed the 2011 motion-capture adventure film The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.
Peter Jackson served as a producer, and the film was developed as the first planned entry in a trilogy. Spielberg directed the first installment, while Jackson was expected to direct a potential sequel. The screenplay combined elements from three Hergé stories: The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, and Red Rackham’s Treasure.
The film used performance-capture technology to create its animated characters, with Jamie Bell voicing Tintin and Andy Serkis portraying Captain Haddock. Jackson’s effects company, Weta Digital, contributed substantially to the visual effects and animation work.
The Adventures of Tintin won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film. It is therefore easy to associate the movie entirely with Jackson, but the director’s credit belongs to Spielberg; Jackson’s principal connection was his producing role and the involvement of Weta Digital.
