Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones premiered in cinemas in 2009.
The film is adapted from Alice Sebold’s 2002 novel The Lovely Bones. It follows Susie Salmon, a teenage girl who observes the effects of her murder on her family and community from an imagined afterlife. Saoirse Ronan plays Susie, while Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz portray her parents.
The film had its world premiere at the 2009 Rome Film Festival and received a wide theatrical release later that year. It combines a family drama with supernatural and crime elements, making its tone different from Jackson’s Middle-earth productions. Stanley Tucci received an Academy Award nomination for playing George Harvey, the serial killer.
