Which waterfall is regarded as the largest by volume in Southeast Asia?

The story behind the answer

Khone Phapheng Falls is regarded as the largest waterfall by volume in Southeast Asia.

It is located on the Mekong River in southern Laos, close to the border with Cambodia. Rather than being one narrow vertical plunge, Khone Phapheng is a broad complex of rapids, channels, and drops spread across the river.

The waterfall is part of the Khone Falls system, which helped make navigation on the lower Mekong difficult. During the wet season, the river’s discharge expands dramatically, reinforcing the falls’ reputation for immense volume.

Khone Phapheng is sometimes confused with nearby Li Phi Falls, another section of the same wider Mekong obstacle. The two are distinct named features, although both belong to the river’s powerful cascade system.
