Dhuandhar Falls is the Indian waterfall on the Narmada River famous for its misty, smoky spray at Bhedaghat.
The name comes from Hindi words meaning “smoke” and “flow,” referring to the plume of water created as the river plunges over a rocky ledge. The falls are near Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, where the Narmada cuts through the Marble Rocks gorge.
Dhuandhar Falls is closely associated with Bhedaghat, a popular tourist area known for tall, pale marble cliffs along the river. Boat trips through the gorge are especially famous, although access and boating conditions can vary with the season and water level.
It is sometimes confused with other major Indian waterfalls, such as Jog Falls in Karnataka or Athirappilly Falls in Kerala. Those waterfalls are on different rivers and are not the source of Dhuandhar’s distinctive name.
