Which waterfall in Zimbabwe lies on the Zambezi River near the town of Victoria Falls?
Answer
Victoria Falls
Answer
Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls is the waterfall on the Zambezi River near the town of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
The waterfall lies on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, where the Zambezi drops into a narrow series of gorges. Its broad curtain is about 1,708 metres wide, and the main falls are commonly described as roughly 108 metres high. The combination of width, height, and seasonal spray creates one of the world’s most recognizable waterfall landscapes.
The local name Mosi-oa-Tunya means “The Smoke That Thunders,” referring to the mist plume and the sound of the falling water. Scottish explorer David Livingstone saw the falls in 1855 and named them Victoria Falls in honor of Queen Victoria.
Victoria Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared by Zambia and Zimbabwe. Flow changes significantly through the year, so views and spray intensity vary between high-water and low-water seasons.
