Which waterfall in Peru is commonly listed at about 896 metres and lies in the Cordillera Oriental?

The story behind the answer

Yumbilla Falls is the Peruvian waterfall commonly listed at about 896 metres in the Cordillera Oriental.

The waterfall is in Amazonas Region, near the town of Cuispes. It descends through several stages in a forested mountain environment, and its full height is measured across the combined sequence rather than as one vertical free fall. That distinction matters when comparing Yumbilla with waterfalls whose headline figures describe a single drop.

Yumbilla gained wider attention during the same period that other high waterfalls in northern Peru, including Gocta, were being surveyed and promoted. Local knowledge of the waterfall long predates its appearance in international rankings.

Lists of the world’s tallest waterfalls can disagree because they use different definitions of total height, uninterrupted descent and seasonal flow. Yumbilla’s approximate 896-metre figure is therefore best understood as a reported total height.
