Jog Falls is the Indian waterfall formed by the Sharavathi River and dropping in four separate cascades.
The waterfall is in Karnataka, in the Western Ghats. At high flow, the Sharavathi River divides into four named plunges: Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket. Together they create a dramatic descent over the cliff face, although the amount of visible water varies greatly between monsoon and dry seasons.
Jog Falls is one of India’s best-known waterfalls and is sometimes promoted as the country’s highest untiered waterfall. That description can cause confusion because the waterfall is commonly discussed as a group of four distinct cascades rather than a single uninterrupted drop.
The nearby Linganamakki Dam affects the river’s flow, while monsoon rains usually produce the most spectacular viewing conditions.
