Della Falls is the highest waterfall on Vancouver Island, with a total drop commonly given as about 440 metres.
The falls are in Strathcona Provincial Park, near the eastern side of Vancouver Island’s mountainous interior. Water from Della Lake descends through a steep valley before joining the Drinkwater River. The remote setting means that reaching the falls requires travel on Buttle Lake followed by a hiking route, and access is more demanding than for roadside Canadian waterfalls.
Della Falls is often described as Canada’s highest waterfall on an island, rather than simply Canada’s highest waterfall. National rankings vary because measurements may count a full series of drops, a single plunge, or only a surveyed main section.
The waterfall’s total height and isolated location are its defining facts. It should not be confused with Helmcken Falls, a much more accessible British Columbia waterfall on the mainland.
