Which waterfall forms the Vietnam–China border on the Quây Sơn River?

The story behind the answer

Ban Gioc–Detian Falls forms the Vietnam–China border on the Quây Sơn River.

The waterfall has two commonly used names: Ban Gioc in Vietnam and Detian in China. It lies between Cao Bằng Province in Vietnam and Guangxi in China, where the river crosses a series of limestone ledges.

The falls are a connected cross-border landscape rather than two unrelated waterfalls. Their broad, stepped appearance changes with seasonal water levels, and the surrounding karst scenery is a major part of their visual character.

This site is sometimes confused with other famous Asian waterfalls because its names differ by country and language. “Ban Gioc–Detian” is the clearest combined name when referring to the whole border waterfall.
