Which Washington State waterfall became the official state waterfall in 2014?
Answer
Palouse Falls
Answer
Palouse Falls
Palouse Falls became Washington State’s official state waterfall in 2014.
The waterfall is on the Palouse River in southeastern Washington, where the river drops through a basalt canyon before continuing toward the Snake River. Its main plunge is about 60 metres, and the surrounding landscape was shaped by massive Ice Age floods known as the Missoula floods.
Washington adopted Palouse Falls as its official state waterfall after a student-led campaign. The designation recognized both the site’s scenic importance and its connection to the state’s geological history.
Palouse Falls is sometimes confused with Snoqualmie Falls because both are famous Washington landmarks. Snoqualmie Falls is more accessible from the Seattle region, whereas Palouse Falls is in the state’s drier inland southeast.
