Which role can temporarily protect living players from being killed?

The story behind the answer

The Guardian Angel role can temporarily protect living players from being killed in Among Us.

Guardian Angel is a ghost role connected to the Crewmate team. It is generally gained after a Crewmate dies rather than assigned at the beginning of the round. Its special Protect ability places a temporary shield around a living player, blocking an Impostor’s attempted kill while the protection lasts.

The role is easy to confuse with Scientist, whose ability is to check player vital signs, or Detective, who investigates evidence after a body is reported. Noisemaker is also defensive in spirit, but its alarm activates when that player is killed; it does not protect anyone.

Protection depends on lobby settings, including whether Guardian Angel is enabled, the ability’s cooldown, its duration, and whether Impostors can see the shield. A Guardian Angel can protect living players, but remains a ghost and cannot perform the ordinary actions of a living Crewmate.
