Which feature replaced standard chat with preset phrases in Among Us?

The story behind the answer

Quickchat replaced standard chat with preset phrases in Among Us.

Among Us added Quickchat in mid-February 2021 as a communication system built around selectable, preset phrases. Instead of typing any message, players choose from categorized options during discussions, making communication faster and more controlled.

The feature was designed partly with safety and moderation in mind. Players under 13 are required to use Quickchat, while older players can generally use Free Chat after meeting the game's account and age requirements. Free Chat allows typed messages, so it remains distinct from the preset system.

Quickchat is often confused with a separate chat mode or a general nickname for the game's meeting screen. It is specifically the phrase-selection interface. The feature also became important for console versions, where typing with a controller is slower than selecting prepared messages.
