Players under the age of 13 are required to use Quickchat in Among Us.
Quickchat is a menu-based communication system made up of preset phrases rather than freely typed messages. Among Us introduced it in mid-February 2021 as part of a broader effort to make communication safer and easier to moderate, particularly for younger players and people playing with strangers.
Players under 13 cannot use the normal Free Chat system, which lets users type their own messages. Players over 13 may use Free Chat, while younger players are restricted to Quickchat unless the game’s account and parental-permission requirements allow otherwise. The age threshold is therefore 13, not 16 or 18.
The restriction is connected to Among Us’ account system and child-safety rules, not to the game’s difficulty settings or a particular console. The same update also added reporting tools and moderation features. Quickchat can be less expressive than typing, but its fixed phrases reduce abusive or inappropriate language and give younger players a controlled way to discuss tasks, meetings, and suspected Impostors.
