In Pokémon Pokopia, the character known as Professor Tangrowth is Tangrowth.
Professor Tangrowth is the first major Pokémon the Ditto protagonist meets in the abandoned world. Tangrowth has taken responsibility for studying the damaged environment and investigating what happened to the humans and Pokémon who once lived there.
The name can be confusing because “Professor” is a role rather than Tangrowth’s species name. Unlike many Pokémon stories, Pokopia does not begin with a human professor assigning a traditional Pokédex journey. Instead, Tangrowth acts as a researcher and guide within the game’s post-apocalyptic setting.
Tangrowth’s investigation also connects the game’s cozy restoration activities to its larger mystery. As habitats are rebuilt, the player learns more about the world and why it became uninhabitable. Tangrowth therefore serves both as a story character and as an important symbol of the Pokémon community’s attempt to recover.
