Game Freak co-developed Pokémon Pokopia with Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force.
Game Freak is the studio most closely associated with the main Pokémon video-game series, but Pokopia takes the franchise in a different direction. Its social-simulation and sandbox design required substantial emphasis on building, exploration, habitat creation, and interaction rather than the traditional battle-and-gym structure.
Omega Force was brought in as a co-developer because of its experience with sandbox-style games, including Dragon Quest Builders 2. This collaboration is why Pokopia is credited to both Game Freak and Omega Force rather than to Game Freak alone. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company published the game, but publishing is a different role from development.
