Which Peter Jackson film was adapted from Alice Sebold’s novel about Susie Salmon?
Answer
The Lovely Bones
Answer
The Lovely Bones
The Lovely Bones is Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of Alice Sebold’s novel about Susie Salmon.
Released in 2009, the film follows Susie, a teenage girl who watches her family and community from a personal afterlife after her murder. Saoirse Ronan played Susie, with Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz portraying her parents, Jack and Abigail Salmon.
Jackson directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. The adaptation uses computer-generated imagery and stylized visual environments to represent Susie’s changing perspective, while also presenting the investigation into her disappearance and the effect of the crime on her family.
The film is not a sequel to Heavenly Creatures, although both are Jackson projects involving young female protagonists and traumatic events. Heavenly Creatures is based on a real 1954 New Zealand case; The Lovely Bones is adapted from Sebold’s fictional novel.
