Which of Niagara Falls’ three main waterfalls is the largest by flow rate?
Answer
Horseshoe Falls
Answer
Horseshoe Falls
Horseshoe Falls is the largest of Niagara Falls’ three main waterfalls by flow rate.
It is also called Canadian Falls because most of its crescent-shaped crest lies in Canada, while Niagara Falls is shared by Canada and the United States. The waterfall is about 790 metres wide and has a vertical drop of roughly 51 metres.
American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are the other two named waterfalls in the Niagara group, both on the American side. Horseshoe Falls generally carries about 90% of the Niagara River’s flow, although the exact proportion varies because water is diverted for hydroelectric power.
The name comes from the waterfall’s curved horseshoe shape. The three waterfalls are part of the Niagara River, which flows from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario.
