Which Nirvana song opened the band’s MTV Unplugged performance?

The story behind the answer

“About a Girl” opened Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged performance.

Nirvana recorded the performance at Sony Music Studios in New York City on November 18, 1993. The set began with “About a Girl,” a song originally released on Bleach and notable for its melodic, Beatles-influenced writing.

Rather than presenting a conventional collection of the band’s biggest hits, Nirvana included lesser-known material and covers. The performance also featured guest musicians from the Meat Puppets, who joined the band for three songs.

MTV broadcast the session in December 1993, and the album MTV Unplugged in New York was released in November 1994, after Kurt Cobain’s death. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance in 1996. “All Apologies” closed the original performance, not opened it.
