Which Nirvana music video features the band performing in a school gymnasium?

Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” music video features the band performing in a school gymnasium.

Samuel Bayer directed the video, which presents Nirvana playing before a restless student audience in a high-school gym. Cheerleaders, school colors, and a chaotic mosh pit create a deliberately exaggerated vision of teenage rebellion. The shoot took place at Culver City High School in California.

The video helped propel “Smells Like Teen Spirit” into heavy rotation on MTV and became a major part of Nirvana’s breakthrough in 1991. Its visual style made the band appear spontaneous and anti-establishment, even though the production was carefully staged and edited.

The gymnasium setting is sometimes confused with Nirvana’s other videos, especially “In Bloom,” which uses a vintage television-performance style. “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was the opening track on Nevermind and became one of the most recognizable videos of the grunge era.
