Which New Zealand city was Peter Jackson born in?

The story behind the answer

Peter Jackson was born in Wellington, New Zealand.

Jackson was born in Wellington on October 31, 1961. He grew up in the region and later became closely associated with New Zealand’s film industry, especially through productions made around Wellington and elsewhere in the country.

His early filmmaking developed through independent horror and comedy projects, including Bad Taste and Braindead. International recognition followed with Heavenly Creatures, The Frighteners, and then his adaptations of The Lord of the Rings.

Wellington is sometimes called Wellywood because of its strong film-production identity. Jackson’s effects company Weta Workshop and visual-effects company Weta Digital also helped make the city a major production hub, although the director filmed across many parts of New Zealand.
