Which mountain range runs along the eastern edge of North America from Alabama to Newfoundland?
Answer
Appalachian Mountains
Answer
Appalachian Mountains
The Appalachian Mountains run along the eastern side of North America from Alabama to Newfoundland.
The Appalachian system extends for roughly 2,400 kilometres through the eastern United States and into parts of Canada. It includes several distinct sections, such as the Blue Ridge Mountains, Great Smoky Mountains, Allegheny Mountains, and Long Range Mountains of Newfoundland.
The range is extraordinarily old. Its rocks were formed during ancient mountain-building events hundreds of millions of years ago, and long-term erosion has worn the original peaks into rounded ridges and plateaus. The highest point is Mount Mitchell in North Carolina, at 2,037 metres.
The Appalachians are sometimes confused with the much younger Rocky Mountains, which lie far to the west. The two systems are separated by the Great Plains and central lowlands. The Appalachian Trail follows the crest of the eastern range for about 3,540 kilometres.
