The Tian Shan mountain range contains Khan Tengri, one of the highest peaks of Central Asia.
Tian Shan means “Mountains of Heaven” in Chinese. The system extends across China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, with many heavily glaciated summits and high alpine valleys.
Khan Tengri rises to 6,995 metres of rock height, or 7,010 metres when its ice cap is included. It stands near the borders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and China and is famous for its sharply symmetrical pyramidal form.
The nearby Jengish Chokusu, also called Victory Peak, is higher and is generally recognized as the Tian Shan’s highest mountain. Khan Tengri is therefore a spectacular high summit, but not the range’s absolute highest point.
