The Dinaric Alps run along much of the eastern Adriatic coast from Slovenia to Albania.
The range extends through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, and Albania. It is named after Mount Dinara, a peak on the Croatia–Bosnia and Herzegovina border.
Limestone geology dominates much of the Dinaric Alps, producing extensive karst landscapes, caves, sinkholes, and underground drainage. The range includes rugged coastal mountains as well as high inland plateaus.
The Dinaric Alps are distinct from the Balkan Mountains, which are farther east and are concentrated mainly in Bulgaria and Serbia. Their highest summit is Maja Jezercë in Albania, at 2,694 metres.
