Which mountain range contains the world's highest active volcano, Ojos del Salado?

The story behind the answer

Ojos del Salado, the world's highest active volcano, is in the Andes mountain range.

Nevado Ojos del Salado rises to about 6,893 metres on the Argentina–Chile border. It is also the second-highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere, after Aconcagua, and the highest volcano on Earth. Its summit region is extremely dry and cold despite its position in the tropics.

The Andes form the longest continental mountain range, running along the western edge of South America. They were created mainly by the subduction of the oceanic Nazca Plate beneath the South American Plate, a process that continues to produce earthquakes and volcanism.

Ojos del Salado has a small permanent crater lake near its summit and evidence of recent volcanic activity. It is distinct from Aconcagua, which is higher but considered a dormant or inactive volcanic system rather than the world’s highest active volcano.
