Which mountain range contains Mount Rainier, the glaciated volcano in Washington State?

The story behind the answer

The Cascade Range contains Mount Rainier, the glaciated volcano in Washington State.

The Cascades extend from southern British Columbia through Washington and Oregon to northern California. They are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire and include many volcanoes formed above the Cascadia subduction zone, where the Juan de Fuca Plate sinks beneath the North American Plate.

Mount Rainier is the highest summit in the Cascade Range at 4,392 metres. It is an active volcano, although it is not currently erupting. Its extensive glaciers and proximity to the Seattle–Tacoma region make it both an important landmark and a significant natural-hazard concern.

The Cascade Range is not the same as Washington’s Olympic Mountains, which occupy the Olympic Peninsula west of Puget Sound. The Cascades also include Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams, Mount Baker, and Lassen Peak.
