Which mountain range is home to Mount Gongga, also called Minya Konka, in Sichuan, China?

The story behind the answer

Mount Gongga, also called Minya Konka, is located in China’s Daxue Mountains.

Mount Gongga reaches 7,556 metres and is the highest mountain in Sichuan Province. Its steep pyramid, heavy glaciation, and isolation have made it a prominent peak in Chinese mountaineering. The mountain is especially dramatic because it rises sharply above nearby valleys.

The Daxue Mountains form a major range in western Sichuan and belong to the Hengduan mountain system. Their name means “Great Snow Mountains,” reflecting the high, snow-covered summits. The range contains several peaks that exceed 6,000 metres.

Mount Gongga is sometimes incorrectly identified with the Himalayas because of its elevation. It is east of the main Himalayan chain, in the complex ranges of southwestern China. Minya Konka is an alternative name rather than a separate mountain.
