Which mountain range contains Huascarán, the highest mountain in Peru?

The story behind the answer

The Cordillera Blanca contains Huascarán, the highest mountain in Peru.

Huascarán’s south summit reaches 6,768 metres. The mountain is in the Peruvian Andes and gives its name to Huascarán National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site established to protect the region’s glaciers, lakes, and high-altitude ecosystems.

Cordillera Blanca means “White Range,” referring to its extensive snow and ice. It is the world’s highest tropical mountain range and includes numerous peaks above 6,000 metres.

The nearby Cordillera Negra means “Black Range” and lies west of the Cordillera Blanca. Despite their proximity, the two ranges have different appearances because the Cordillera Negra has far less permanent snow.
