Which mountain range contains Galdhøpiggen, the highest mountain in Norway?

The story behind the answer

Galdhøpiggen, the highest mountain in Norway, is located in the Scandinavian Mountains.

The summit reaches 2,469 metres and stands in Innlandet, Norway, within the Jotunheimen mountain area. Its name means “the peak of Galdhø” and reflects the local Norwegian landscape. Galdhøpiggen is also the highest point in mainland Northern Europe, although some geographic definitions treat nearby peaks and regional boundaries differently.

The Scandinavian Mountains run along the Scandinavian Peninsula through Norway and Sweden, with a northern extension reaching into Finland. Their western slopes are steep and deeply cut by fjords, while the eastern side generally descends more gradually toward Sweden.

Galdhøpiggen is sometimes confused with Glittertind, another famous Norwegian summit. Glittertind was historically considered higher when its snowcap was included, but changing snow and ice measurements leave Galdhøpiggen as Norway’s established highest mountain.
