Which Lego Indiana Jones game first added a level creator?

The story behind the answer

Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues was the first LEGO game to add a level creator.

Released in 2009, the game followed Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures and expanded beyond a straightforward retelling of the films. Its campaign revisited material from the original Indiana Jones trilogy while also adapting Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, giving the sequel a broader structure built around movie “playsets.”

The level creator lets players assemble custom stages using objects and systems unlocked during progression and then bought in-game. These tools include building blocks, traps, animals, props, and programmable enemies. The game also includes an adventure creator that modifies elements of existing levels, plus a separate character creator.

The distinction matters because later LEGO games offered customization features, and the original Lego Indiana Jones included replayable levels, but neither had this kind of level-building system. The Nintendo DS version is also a common source of confusion: because of hardware limitations, it did not include the full level creator found in the console and computer versions.
