Which label released Nirvana’s debut album Bleach?
Answer
Sub Pop
Answer
Sub Pop
Sub Pop released Nirvana’s debut album Bleach.
The Seattle independent label issued Bleach on June 15, 1989, making it Nirvana’s first studio-album release. At the time, Sub Pop was a central force in documenting the Pacific Northwest underground, particularly the heavy, punk-influenced bands associated with Seattle and nearby communities.
Bleach was recorded for a small budget at Reciprocal Recording, where producer Jack Endino worked with the band. Its original release did not make Nirvana a mainstream act, but the album gained a much wider audience after the band signed with DGC Records and released Nevermind in 1991.
DGC handled Nirvana’s major-label albums, including Nevermind and In Utero, so it is an easy label to select incorrectly. Bleach remained a Sub Pop release, and its later reissues helped establish it as an important document of the early grunge era.
