Which Game Freak director conceived the Pokémon Pokopia concept?

The story behind the answer

Game Freak director Shigeru Ohmori conceived the Pokémon Pokopia concept.

Ohmori began thinking about the project while considering new directions for the Pokémon franchise. He drew on his early experience as a map designer on Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and imagined a game where fans could create and cultivate their own Pokémon habitats.

That idea led to Pokopia’s focus on construction, environmental development, and relationships with Pokémon. Rather than designing another battle-centered adventure, the project explored what it would feel like to build a welcoming home for Pokémon.

Ohmori served as the game’s concept and senior director. Omega Force director Takuto Edagawa served as chief director, so the finished project reflects both Ohmori’s original vision and the co-development team’s production leadership.
