Which Czech bridge in Prague, begun in 1357, is lined with 30 Baroque statues?

The story behind the answer

Charles Bridge in Prague, begun in 1357, is lined with 30 Baroque statues.

The historic stone bridge crosses the Vltava River and connects Prague’s Old Town with the Lesser Town. Construction began under King Charles IV after the earlier Judith Bridge was damaged by floods, and the new crossing became an important route through the medieval city.

The bridge was built from sandstone blocks and was completed in the early 15th century. Its present sculptural decoration was added mainly between 1683 and 1714, long after the bridge itself was finished. The statues depict saints and are copies or replacements in many cases, because weather and pollution damaged the originals.

The crossing was known simply as the Stone Bridge or Prague Bridge for centuries. It received the name Charles Bridge in 1870. Visitors sometimes assume the statues are medieval, but most belong to the Baroque period, making the bridge a blend of medieval engineering and later artistic decoration.
