Which Croatian bridge, opened in 2022, connects the Pelješac Peninsula with mainland Croatia while bypassing Bosnia and Herzegovina?

The story behind the answer

Pelješac Bridge is the Croatian bridge opened in 2022 that connects the Pelješac Peninsula with mainland Croatia while bypassing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s short coastline corridor.

Before the bridge opened, road travel between the northern mainland and much of southern Croatia required crossing the border at Neum, the Bosnian town that reaches the Adriatic Sea. The new crossing provides a continuous Croatian route to the Pelješac Peninsula and onward toward Dubrovnik.

The bridge is a cable-stayed structure with a central navigation span designed to preserve access for ships. It was built across the Mali Ston Bay area and uses tall pylons and multiple cable-supported spans.

The project was politically and geographically sensitive because it had to respect maritime access and international boundaries. It is sometimes confused with Dubrovnik’s Franjo Tuđman Bridge, which is a separate crossing near the city.
