The Engineer is the Crewmate role that can use vents like an Impostor, subject to limits.

Engineers retain the normal Crewmate objective of completing tasks and helping identify Impostors, but their special ability lets them enter and travel through ventilation ducts. This makes the role useful for escaping danger, moving quickly between connected areas, or observing suspicious activity. It also means that seeing someone use a vent is not always proof that they are an Impostor.

The ability is restricted by lobby settings and typically involves a time limit in the vent and a cooldown before it can be used again. Impostors generally have greater freedom with venting, so the visual behavior alone may not settle an accusation. The Engineer role was introduced in the major November 2021 role update, alongside Scientist and Guardian Angel. Another common mix-up is confusing Engineer venting with the Clean Vent task: ordinary Crewmates may interact with a vent for that task, but they cannot use it as a transportation route.
