Which character is known as the 'Dark Knight'?

The story behind the answer

The character known as the “Dark Knight” is Batman. The title reflects his nocturnal crime-fighting methods, bat-like costume, and role as a mysterious guardian operating from the shadows of Gotham City.

Batman’s civilian identity is Bruce Wayne, a wealthy Gotham philanthropist who becomes a masked vigilante after witnessing his parents’ murder as a child. Unlike many superheroes, he has no innate superpowers; he relies on detective work, martial arts, physical training, technology, and psychological intimidation. The “dark” in his nickname describes both his imagery and the serious moral atmosphere of many Batman stories.

The name is also used in titles such as The Dark Knight Returns and Christopher Nolan’s 2008 film The Dark Knight. Nightwing is another member of the Batman family, but he is Dick Grayson and is not normally called the Dark Knight. Superman, meanwhile, is commonly associated with titles such as the Man of Steel.
