Who wrote the story for Batman: Arkham Asylum?

The story behind the answer

Paul Dini wrote the story for Batman: Arkham Asylum. The veteran Batman writer helped shape the game’s plot, dialogue, character relationships, and dark comic-book tone.

Dini was already closely associated with Batman through Batman: The Animated Series, where he was a writer, producer, and one of the creators of major characters and storylines. His experience helped Arkham Asylum balance detective work, psychological horror, action, and the distinctive personalities of villains such as the Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Scarecrow.

The game was developed by Rocksteady Studios and released in 2009, but Dini’s writing credit does not mean he created the entire production alone. Designers, directors, performers, and other writers contributed to the finished game. Another frequent mix-up is Grant Morrison: Morrison wrote the 1989 graphic novel Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, which influenced the game’s atmosphere, but did not write the game’s story.
